Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.
If you keep track of the days, it’s 8 days until the presidential election. Wow! I know there are people who are ready to be done with the election. They couldn’t care less who is elected. Others are afraid of what’s going to happen and are filled with a lot of anxiety. Still others are putting their trust in the next elected president to save them from _______.
Psalm 146 directs our trust to someone FAR more deserving and FAR better at doing what he’s promised. Trust in the LORD.
Psalm 146 identifies one huge reason why: Human beings and rulers can’t save us. Sure, they might be able to save you from some temporary problems. They might be able to make your life a little more convenient. But here’s the harsh but needed reality, they’re human beings. They are going to end up in the same place we all are. The simple truth is we ALL need a Savior and that Savior can’t be a mere human being. That’s because we all have some big enemies that need defeating.
Our greatest enemy isn’t an earthly enemy or a person or a policy or inflation or fill in the blank. Our enemy is our sin that stands against us and our guilt we can’t get away from. Our enemy is our mortality that we can’t do anything about. Our enemy is our inability to save ourselves from sin, death, and hell.
But guess what?
God did that through his Son, Jesus Christ. We don’t have to worry about those things any longer. Jesus saved us from them all. If God can do that and did it, why wouldn’t we trust him for everything? Why would we look to anyone to save? Why would we think someone has our best interest in mind more than God?
Put your trust in your God for everything in your life. Do it every day, not just in election season. He is worthy of your trust. He saves.
