The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
What’s going to happen tomorrow?
Who is going to get elected?
God already knows.
That’s right. Even before a single vote has been tabulated or a winner has been declared, God knows. In fact, Romans 13:1 tells us, “the authorities that exist have been established by God.” So which candidate will win? Which candidate does God want?
Well, to help us appreciate that, we need to know God’s agenda. What is God’s aim & goal in all his actions? 2 Peter lets us know what’s happening. God wants more people to come to faith, be saved, and be in heaven. That is always the driving force and ultimate goal in everything God does.
That goal is repeated over and over again in Scripture. Jesus lived that goal out by the fact his purpose was to suffer for the sins of the world and rise from the dead. Everything Jesus said and did was for that goal, too.
That is God’s ultimate goal for people, that they come to faith and be saved. Whatever happens tomorrow, God will use it to that end. He will weave what happens into his ultimate plan to bring as many people to faith as possible. God will always work through and in spite of whomever is in power to achieve his purpose of more people coming to faith. No one and nothing can stop that.
Find comfort in that. God will always accomplish his salvation through any and every circumstance.
