Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
The song goes this way, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” When I was a kid that was definitely the case. I could hardly stand the wait for Christmas and all the presents and snacks and cookies and fun. It was excruciating.
As I’ve gotten older, I watch and hear that same anticipation in my own children now. For them this is the most wonderful time of the year.
Is it the most wonderful time of year for you? As I’ve experienced more and more of life and interacted with many people around me, sometimes this time of year can be the hardest for a variety of reasons.
But do you know why this is and can be the most wonderful time of year? It’s what the angel told the shepherds, recorded in Luke 2:11. God sent us a Savior, Christ the Lord.
This time of year is the best because we get to hear again how much God loved us. He loved us so much he sent his Son to take away our sins. Our Savior was born to give us hope, life, joy, peace, and forgiveness. This time of year is the best because it’s a time for giving, when God gives us the Savior we desperately need.
Focus on that Savior this week. He came for us. Click below and read Luke 2 to hear again all God did that night to bring his Son into this world. Meditate on the joy the Christ-child brings to us by his presence. Ponder the eternity of perfection in heaven you’ve been given through Christ Jesus.
Yes, the Christmas season may not have all the worldly fun and joy we remember as a child or want right now. Don’t let that dissuade from enjoying this season because of the gift of a Savior you’ve received from God. Jesus.
