The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
My family and I were navigating an icy parking lot over the recent Christmas break. One of our kids didn’t want to hold our hand because “he can do it himself.” After some back and forth and the reminder that we are his parents and know better, he took our hand.
As we walked across the ice, he took a misstep and started to slip. Thankfully, he was holding our hand and didn’t fall. He didn’t get hurt. We held on tightly.
We often approach our own life in the same way. We think we can do it all on our own and don’t need any help. We think we’re strong enough to withstand the challenges and difficulties life throws at us. And then we slip. Just when we think we have it all figured out, we stumble.
Thankfully, we don’t fall. Thankfully, we aren’t lost because our Savior holds our hand. He holds on tightly because of his commitment to us and our salvation.
Rest assured, even at those times when we think we have it all under control, Jesus really does have it under control. Even when we think we can “do it ourselves” your loving, ever-present Savior holds onto you tightly so you’re not lost.
